Dana Owens

I am a college student with severe cerebral palsy who is majoring in Public Health at Oregon State University. Right now, I am working on my internship at Oregon Office on Disability and Health. My job is to promote public health programs across Oregon. The public health programs are aimed at improving the health and quality of life for Oregonians with disabilities. I am elated to say that I will be graduating with my degree in March 2010.
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling around the world. I have been to India, Thailand, Canada, and many different states in the U.S. Traveling in a wheelchair is very challenging but is rewarding at the same time. I also love sports. My favorite sport is NBA basketball. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and exploring Portland which is still a fairly new city to me. I also like to go on walks with my dog Ginger, a miniature Schnauzer/Poodle mix.
I want to help youth with disabilities with the transition from high school to college or from college to work. I would like to share my experiences and offer guidance. This is what motivated me to join ELNW.
