Emily Lang

My name is Emily Lang and I just turned 22 years old on Monday February 16th, 2009 and I have a part-time job as a receptionist working at the Edwards Center located in Milwaukie.  I work 2 days a week for 5 hours a day on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I do enjoy the work I do.  I was born with 2 different syndromes.  I was born Antley Bixler and phiffier syndrome which is a rare genetic disorder that is primarily characterized by distinctive malformation.  With this syndrome that I have, it makes my mobility limited.  For example, I can’t bathe myself, feed myself, dress myself all the way and so on.  In 2006 went to Clackamas Community College to try out taking some classes to see how well I would do. As of right now, I am working on getting my 4 year bachelors degree in becoming a counselor.

During the year of 08 there had been a lot of things that went on.  First, I started looking for a part-time job.  I had some help through the transition program and I also had a little help from my caseworker.  I had told some people that were helping me find a good job that I had wanted to be a receptionist.  My caseworker had called me one time and told me that she had found something that I might like but she didn’t want to tell me until things were finalized.  Well, in March of 08 during spring break, I went for a job interview at the Edwards Center to see if I could get the receptionist job because that was what I wanted to do at any business office or something like this.  I got the job and I started working for them in April and I was so excited about working for this company.  Another thing that happened during the year of 08 and that was, I graduated from Clackamas Community College on June 13th with a certificate of Employment Skill Training.  So you’re probably wondering what my job as a receptionist entails.  Well, I take attendance when each client starts to arrive at the work site, I answer the phones all day, send fax, make copies for the staff and I do whatever assignments that are put into my inbox.  When and if I get some down time and there’s no work to be done, I sometimes would go and visit the clients in their group area or I would help another staff member with whatever needs to be done.  So, there you have it, a bio about me.
