Krystyna Owens

My name is Krystyna Owens and I am a part of Emerging Leaders Northwest (ELNW) because I have a brother with cerebral palsy. From his experiences and our efforts as a family to help him gain education beyond high school and a job of his own, I have learned a lot about the challenges that arise during transition from high school. Another reason that I am part of ELNW is because I have had experience with participating in leadership positions and internships. For four years I have participated in a summer internship that is helping me learn more about the career path that I have chosen. I have learned the value of using internships as a means to discover if you are truly interested in a certain career.
I currently attend the University of Portland and am from Portland, Oregon. I am studying to be a doctor, more specifically a surgeon, and am preparing for my own transition from undergraduate school to medical school. In my free time I do taekwondo, where I am a 3rd degree black belt, play video games, and watch Grey's Anatomy or House.
